Making complex tours easier to discover and book
A responsive WordPress redesign and custom travel platform connecting rich tour content, dynamic discovery, and Rezdy booking.

Grasshopper Adventures relied on its website to inspire travelers and turn a large, complex tour catalog into bookable trips. Orpheus redesigned the experience and built the custom WordPress systems behind discovery, itinerary content, and booking.
The 2019 platform connected the emotional side of travel planning with the practical work of finding the right trip. Travelers could move from destinations and tour styles into detailed itineraries, availability, and a Rezdy-connected booking flow.
This case documents the historical Orpheus build. Grasshopper Adventures’ current website uses a different platform and is not represented as our work.
Inspiration had to lead to a bookable trip
A travel website has two jobs at once: make a trip feel possible, then help a traveler act on that feeling. Grasshopper Adventures had a broad catalog of cycling tours across different destinations, dates, trip formats, and riding levels. Its website needed to communicate the experience while helping people narrow the choices.
Orpheus approached the work as one connected journey. The redesign created a clearer path from broad exploration to a specific itinerary, while the platform underneath gave the team structured tools for managing the catalog and connecting it to booking operations.
A clearer path from exploration to action
The redesign gave photography and destinations more room to lead while keeping trip discovery close at hand. Clearer hierarchy helped travelers understand the brand, see the range of experiences, and start finding a trip without working through a dense interface first.
The comparison below shows the previous homepage beside the Orpheus redesign, with each version labeled so the chronology remains clear.

Tour discovery became more visual
The new discovery experience turned the tour catalog into a more visual invitation to explore. The comparison below shows the shift from a date-first Guaranteed Departures listing toward an image-led way to browse trips and follow them into richer content.
Behind the pages, custom WordPress content models linked tours with locations, operators, tour styles, articles, and video. That structure let the presentation stay expressive without treating every itinerary as an isolated page.

Search built around how travelers choose
The Find Trips experience helped travelers narrow the catalog by destination, dates, tour style, and riding level. Search results presented the tours as experiences to compare rather than rows in a database, while keeping the practical details needed to make a decision visible.
This was a custom application layer inside the WordPress site, supported by reusable tour templates, dynamic galleries, filters, carousels, and related-tour relationships.

Structured content at catalog scale
Orpheus built a custom WordPress plugin for the travel catalog rather than relying on a collection of unrelated pages. Tours, destinations, operators, tour styles, articles, and video were represented as connected content, with dedicated templates for day tours, multi-day tours, destination guides, and itinerary detail.
The system also supported structured content imports and synchronized tour information with Rezdy. Editors could manage a broad catalog while travelers encountered a consistent experience from discovery through the individual tour page.
Designed for the catalog and the brand
Custom parent- and child-theme work translated the Grasshopper visual system into responsive page templates while the plugin handled the travel data and application behavior.
Discovery connected to real availability
The platform connected to Rezdy for supplier and product data, sessions, availability, quotes, and booking submission. That let the website carry a traveler from inspiration into the operational booking flow without making the catalog and booking system feel like separate experiences.
The result was a historical travel-commerce platform that joined a responsive brand experience, a structured tour catalog, dynamic discovery, and booking integration in one system.
